CIRIEC, the world reference centre for research and information on public, social and cooperative economy, invites you to the 8th International Research Conference on Social Economy, scheduled for 8-10 September 2021 in San José, Costa Rica. The event is organized by the new Costa Rican section of CIRIEC in close collaboration with CIRIEC-International and the national sections of CIRIEC. The overall theme of the Congress is ‘Social and Solidarity Economy and the Agenda 2030: inclusive and sustainable development through innovative social practices’.
The objective of this Congress will be to share with academics, entrepreneurial sectors and social sectors their research by contributing to topics such as: the social and solidarity economy in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), public and social economy, cooperatives, climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, peace and justice, among other global priorities.
Researchers, professionals from the sector and representatives from the Public Administration are invited to participate in the Congress, whose aim is to debate, from a broad and ambitious perspective, the most recent research in social economy and its methodologies. All this in a situation of important changes and strong imbalances, with new challenges and social demands to which the social economy and its plurality of actors have many answers to offer.
According to information from CIRIEC, researchers interested in presenting papers must send their proposal or a brief summary of their paper (2 or 3 pages) until 30th March 2021. After acceptance by the Scientific Committee, the final versions of the papers (in English, French or Spanish) must be sent by 30 April 2021.
Both abstracts and full papers can be written in English, French or Spanish, and should be sent to: cirieccr@uned.ac.cr and ghernandezc@uned.ac.cr.
The largest academic event on Social Economy
The International Research Conferences on Social Economy are a consolidated initiative in the calendar of CIRIEC-International, which launched them 13 years ago, in 2007. They are currently the largest academic event in social economy at world level. They take place every two years, alternating with the CIRIEC International Congresses on public, social and cooperative economy, such as the one held in June 2018 in Liège.
So far, seven world congresses of researchers have been held: the first in 2007 in Victoria (Canada), the second in 2009 in Östersund (Sweden), the third in 2011 in Valladolid (Spain), the fourth in 2013 in Antwerp (Belgium), the fifth in 2015 in Lisbon (Portugal), the sixth in 2017 in Manaus (Brazil) and the seventh in 2019 in Bucharest (Romania), with a participation volume of between 300 and 600 people in each of them.
