Social and Solidarity Economy to change the way our societies produce and consume goods and services

In October 2010, the first ILO SSE Academy was held on the campus of CIT-ILO in Turin. From 2010 to today the social and solidarity economy has grown and obtained important recognition in all parts of the world. Both at the level of policies, as can be witnessed by institutional recognition, and in a broader sense, such as the examples of rapid and efficient response to crises like the one generated by COVID-19. Evidence of this is the fact that ILO constituents have decided to include in the agenda of the International Labor Conference, to be held in Geneva in June 2022, a general discussion on SSE.

The European Social Economy contribution to the transition pathway for the social economy ecosystem towards the green and digital economy

Last December, the EU Social Economy Action Plan was officially launched and it was accompanied by two working documents. One of them, titled “Scenarios towards co-creation of a transition pathway for a resilient, innovative, sustainable and digital proximity and social economy ecosystem”, aims at explaining how the social economy and proximity ecosystem has the right potential to contribute to green and digital transitions, strengthening resilience for future shocks.

The programme for the 33rd CIRIEC International Congress - Valencia, 13-15 June 2022 is now available

The registration and accommodation forms are available together with the programme. The Congress will be held under the theme "New global dynamics in the post-Covid era: challenges for the public, social and cooperative economy", and will feature an exceptional panel of top-level speakers, an inaugural lecture by Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman, and a closing lecture by Mariana Mazzucato.

134 activities, in 36 universities, make up the 3rd University Week of the Social Economy in Spain

The last day, Thursday 31 March, in the afternoon, is reserved for a joint activity of the ENUIES Network, CIRIEC and the Spanish Association of Accounting and Business Administration (AECA), which will be held in person in Valencia, at the Faculty of ADE of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and which this year will be dedicated to the European Action Plan for the Social Economy.

New book on 'Women, Cooperativism and Social and Solidarity Economy in Ibero-America'

The Ibero-American Observatory OIBESCOOP, based at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) has published a new study, this time on a highly topical issue such as 'Women, Cooperativism and the Social and Solidarity Economy in Ibero-America'. The book has been produced by a working group made up of experts from the OIBESCOOP Network from 14 countries, coordinated by the president of OIBESCOOP, Carmen Marcuello (University of Zaragoza, Spain); María del Carmen Barragán (Autonomous University of Guerrero, Mexico); Eliane Rosandiski, (Pontificia Universidade Católica de Campinas, Brazil), and Juan Fernando Álvarez (Pontifical Javeriana University, Colombia).

Community Economies in the Global South

New Law on Social entrepreneurship in Serbia

After a decade of work on the Draft Law, the Law on Social Entrepreneurship was adopted at the session of the National Assembly on February 4, 2022. The law is one of the most advanced legal solutions for the social entrepreneurship sector in Europe and, for the first time in Serbia, sets the legal framework for the sector in which about 500 companies operate.

Event 'Social Economy: The Future of Europe' - 5-6 May 2022 in Strasbourg

The French Presidency of the EU invites you to the event "Social Economy: The Future of Europe" (Solutions for People and the Planet). The high-level conference will take place on 5-6 May 2022 in Strasbourg (France), just a few months after the adoption of the European Action Plan for the Social Economy. The conference aims to mobilise more than 1,000 Europeans, who will have a great opportunity to have their say and contribute to the implementation of the Action Plan, and to shape the future of Europe.

The European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) invites to the International Conference: ‘The Future of the Right to Work: What Role for the Social Economy?’ The conference will bring together key stakeholders to explore role of social economy to improve Labour Market Outcomes as well as identify how to maximise its potential. 2nd CIRIEC-Mexico International Research Congress - Acapulco, 19 and 20 May

The Board of Directors of the Mexico Chapter of CIRIEC invites researchers and teachers focused on the study and teaching of the SSE, public officials, cooperativists and members of social enterprises and cooperatives, community movements, ejidos and agrarian nuclei and the general public to participate in the work of the Second International Research Congress of Ciriec-Mexico: "The social and solidarity economy in movement", which will take place on 19 and 20 May 2022, in the facilities of the Autonomous University of Guerrero, located in the city and port of Acapulco.
