The European Network of Social Integration Enterprises (ENSIE) has published its 2025 Annual Report, highlighting a year marked by significant achievements, active engagement in public policy, support for its members and cooperation to promote more inclusive labour markets.
The report outlines ENSIE’s work throughout 2025 to strengthen the recognition of Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs) at the European level, in a context characterised by labour shortages, social inequalities, the green and digital transitions, and the first policy developments under the new European Union mandate.
In the foreword, ENSIE President Duncan Walker underlines the enduring importance of the network’s mission, recalling that ENSIE has consistently promoted and supported the recognition and development of work integration social enterprises across a range of political and economic contexts. He also notes that, despite the current challenges facing the social economy sector, “the WISE sector continues to demonstrate its resilience.”
Throughout 2025, ENSIE continued to advocate for stronger European policy frameworks to support WISEs. The network contributed to the mid-term review of the Social Economy Action Plan, participated in work related to the European Semester, and promoted a more inclusive vision of quality employment through the joint declaration “How to make quality jobs for everyone?”, which brought together 39 signatory organisations.
A support network
The Annual Report also highlights ENSIE’s role as a support network for its members. During 2025, the organisation welcomed six new members, organised capacity-building activities, and engaged its members in strategic discussions on the network’s priorities for the 2025–2028 period.
One of the year’s most significant achievements was the launch of the European WISE Alliance in Barcelona. The initiative builds on the B-WISE project and establishes a dedicated platform for long-term cooperation, the exchange of experience and sectoral advocacy, particularly in the area of skills development.
The report also highlights ENSIE’s participation in European Union-funded projects, including DIGIT-ABLE, GreenBoost4WISEs and WISESHIFT, which aim to strengthen the digital capacities of WISEs, promote more sustainable practices and generate evidence of their contribution to an inclusive and sustainable socio-economic transformation.
ENSIE’s future
In 2026, ENSIE is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The report highlights the network’s contribution to building a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable Europe. It therefore invites policymakers, members, partners, social economy stakeholders and the wider public to read the report.
