New issue of the Portuguese journal ‘Economia Social, Leituras & Debates’ on the challenges of the cooperative sector

The Portuguese journal ‘Economia Social, Leituras & Debates’, published by the António Sérgio Cooperative for the Social Economy (CASES), has released its 23rd issue, corresponding to 2025. This edition is devoted to “Opportunities and Challenges for the Cooperative Sector,” in commemoration of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.

Coordinated by the president of CASES, Eduardo Graça, the issue is also dedicated to the memory of Rui Namorado, jurist, former president of the Scientific Council of CIRIEC-Portugal, professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, and a prominent figure in research and teaching on cooperativism and the social economy, who passed away last January.

The articles gathered in this issue highlight the importance of cooperatives as agents of inclusion, innovation, and sustainability, while reflecting on the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector, thus underscoring the relevance of public policies, managerial innovation, and the mobilization of new generations.

Contributors to this issue include the authors and researchers Eduardo Graça, Deolinda Meira, Maria Elisabete Ramos, Itziar Villafañez, Ifigeneia Douvitsa, Gemma Fajardo, J. M. Coutinho de Abreu, Paula de Íscar de Rojas, Frederico Botelho da Costa Santos, Raquel Sampaio, Filipa Roseta, and João Nunes.
