CIRIEC-Spain publishes a special issue of its scientific journal on Economics dedicated to advances and perspectives in the Social Economy research agenda

Issue 114 of ‘CIRIEC-Spain, Journal of Public, Social and Cooperative Economy’ (JCR Q3) is a special issue entitled “Advances and Perspectives in the Social Economy Research Agenda,” coordinated by Professor Rafael Chaves Ávila, editor of the journal and president of the Scientific Committee of CIRIEC-Spain. The monograph contains 12 articles authored by 28 scholars from 16 universities in Spain, Italy, and Latin America.

According to Rafael Chaves, the last three decades have witnessed substantial progress in research related to the social economy, with prolific academic production. A strong theoretical and empirical corpus has been generated, and an international scientific community has been consolidated around major scholarly societies specializing in the field of the social economy, such as CIRIEC-International, its various national sections, EMES, the International Cooperative Alliance, and ISTR.

As early as 2006, the journal published a first special issue reviewing research activity in the social economy. Now, the new issue updates the main advances achieved in this area, the debates held, the emerging concepts and theories, as well as the most promising and relevant research lines likely to guide future investigations.

As Rafael Chaves points out, “this review must be useful to the scientific community, especially to young researchers in guiding their doctoral theses, and to other scholars by indicating the most relevant topics in the current research agenda.”

The articles published address, among other topics, the conceptual delimitation of the social economy field; the economic quantification of the social economy and its families; the measurement of the impact and the socio-economic added value of the social economy; government policies; the role of the different families within the social economy; the historical analysis of the social economy, with particular emphasis on cooperativism; the gender perspective, and the institutional perspective on the social economy.
