CIRIEC International is already working on its next major academic event on the Social Economy. The 11th International Congress of Social Economy Researchers of CIRIEC International will take place from 30 June to 2 July 2027 in Bogotá, organised by the Colombian section of CIRIEC and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana under the theme ‘Social and Solidarity Economy in the face of global transformations and challenges for peace’. In a global context characterised by uncertainty, complexity, the climate crisis and inequalities, the Congress is projected as a platform to showcase experiences, debate conceptual and methodological frameworks, and promote research and action agendas aimed at consolidating the SSE as a pillar in the transition towards more humane, inclusive and sustainable development models oriented towards peacebuilding.
The proposed thematic areas cover everything from the management and governance architecture of SSE organisations to their visibility in measurement and data systems, as well as the impacts of digital transformation, entrepreneurship and innovation. They also refer to the political-transformative nature of the SSE, in tension with hegemonic market logics and public policies. Likewise, they recognise the fundamental role of transformative economies and local knowledge in building processes of sustainable development, peace and social justice, particularly in diverse and unequal territorial contexts.
Congress thematic areas
CIRIEC-Colombia and CIRIEC-International invite the submission of papers and applied studies that align with the general theme of the congress and/or any of the following sub-themes:
1. SSE management elements in the face of global challenges
2. Statistics, measurement and assessment of the SSE
3. Digital transformation, entrepreneurship and innovation in organisational performance
4. SSE as a political-transformative project and its articulation with public policies
5. Transformative economies and local knowledge
6. Emerging scientific advances in the social economy
Important dates
Abstracts for papers must be submitted by 1 November through the Congress website itself: https://congreso2027.ciriec-colombia.org/. Proposals may be submitted in Spanish or English and must be no more than 1,500 words. The Congress will award prizes and recognitions for the best papers presented.
The largest academic event in the social economy
The International Congresses of Social Economy Researchers are an established initiative in the CIRIEC-International calendar, launched 20 years ago, in 2007. They take place every two years (in odd-numbered years), alternating with the CIRIEC International Congresses on public, social and cooperative economy (even-numbered years), such as the one that will take place in early October in Montreal (Canada).
To date, ten international researchers’ congresses have been organised: the first in 2007 in Victoria (Canada), the second in 2009 in Östersund (Sweden), the third in 2011 in Valladolid (Spain), the fourth in 2013 in Antwerp (Belgium), the fifth in 2015 in Lisbon (Portugal), the sixth in 2017 in Manaus (Brazil), the seventh in 2019 in Bucharest (Romania), the eighth in September 2021 in Costa Rica, the ninth in July 2023 in Seoul (South Korea) and the tenth in October 2025 in Bordeaux (France), with between 400 and 800 participants at each event.
