Spain is celebrating from 23 February to 4 March the 7th University Week of the Social Economy, organised by CIRIEC-Spain. For this edition, more than 150 activities have been scheduled across a total of 41 university institutions in Spain, Portugal and Latin America — a major success in terms of participation and a true collective event for knowledge and the dissemination of the Social Economy in the university and in society.
The University Week, convened through the ENUIES Network, will therefore run for 10 days, during which university research centres, institutes and chairs in social economy will offer conferences, exhibitions, round tables, presentations of publications and research project results, seminars, workshops and specific training sessions, among many other activities aimed at the expansion and promotion of the SSE.
As every year, through these activities the social economy will be brought to the University and vice versa. University institutions will become hubs of debate and study, showcasing everything being carried out inside their classrooms and laboratories for the social economy.
The universities with the highest number of activities scheduled for this edition are those of Santiago de Compostela, Extremadura, Católica de Ávila, Complutense of Madrid, Zaragoza and the University of Valencia (see summary Excel with the planned programme).
The Polytechnic University of Porto (Portugal), the Cooperative University of Colombia (UCC), Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla and the University of Santiago de Chile are the Latin American university institutions participating in this edition.
Exhibitions, Conferences, Seminars
Among the planned activities are the exhibitions “Another economy is possible… and it is already here. Transforming and providing solutions through cooperativism and the social economy”, at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia, and the exhibition “The Social Economy in Aragon”, on the campuses of the University of Zaragoza.
Also noteworthy is the organisation of the 12th Conference on Research and Teaching in Participation-Based Organisations, organised by the School of Professional Specialisation in Social Economy, Cooperatives and Other Participation-Based Organisations (EESCOOP) and the Association of Cooperative Studies (AECOOP) on 27 February at the Complutense University of Madrid; as well as the Week being organised by the Catholic University of Ávila or by the University of Extremadura, with activities taking place practically every day of the week.
Other significant events scheduled include the presentation, at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), of the new Report on the Social Economy in Galicia, and the presentation, at the University of La Laguna (Tenerife), of the project “The Social Economy as a tool for local development in the Municipalities of the Canary Islands”.
