CIRIEC’s new newsletter ‘Social Economy News’ has completed its first year, in which it has sent out 7 issues in its three versions: in French, English and Spanish. CIRIEC-Spain and CIRIEC-International launched ‘Social Economy News’ at the end of 2020, with the main objective of capturing the most relevant information on the European and international social economy (cooperatives, mutual societies, associations and foundations) and disseminating it online through a Newsletter that in this first year has approached 25,000 recipients per issue.
The mission of ‘Social Economy News’ is to facilitate access to and exchange of information on the activities of social economy enterprises and organisations, their representative organisations, with special reference to Social Economy Europe, the work and initiatives of scientific research groups in the field and the actions of European institutions and governments on the social economy, as well as other information considered relevant to the sector.
Each issue of the Bulletin includes an opinion article by a leading figure in the social economy. During this first year, the following personalities have written in the bulletin: Juan Antonio Pedreño, President of Social Economy Europe; Yolanda Díaz, Minister of Labour and Social Economy of the Government of Spain; Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs; Marie J. Bouchard, President of the European Social Economy Forum (ESE) and President of the International Scientific Commission on Social and Cooperative Economy of CIRIEC-International; Giuseppe Guerini, President of CECOP and member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC); Anna Athanasopoulou, Head of the Proximity and Social Economy Unit of the European Commission; and Vic van Vuuren, President of the UN Task Force for the Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE) and Director of the ILO Enterprise Department.
The President of Social Economy Europe, Juan Antonio Pedreño, congratulated CIRIEC for this initiative, in which he is delighted to participate and collaborate. The Bulletin has appeared at a key moment of enormous expectations for the European social economy, with the approval of the European Social Economy Action Plan, and with the convening of events such as the next International Congress of CIRIEC, in June 2022 in Valencia.
After the success of the first year, it is planned to send an issue every month by 2022, which will be an important leap in the consolidation of this newsletter. As we prepare for such great moments, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you Merry Christmas and a healthy and profitable New Year.
