ENSIE Advances Social Impact Measurement for Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs)

In order to promote social inclusion and local development, the European Network of Social Integration Enterprises (ENSIE) has undertaken a series of initiatives to measure the socio-economic impact of work integration social enterprises (WISEs).

The publication of the “Impact-WISEs” tool in 2023 marked a milestone, providing quantitative indicators to assess the positive contributions of WISEs. This tool not only highlights economic and integration data but also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 and the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Among the successes of the Impact-WISEs tool, the Bulgarian government drew inspiration from it for its law on social enterprises, thus highlighting its relevance and applicability.

Moreover, ENSIE has engaged in knowledge-sharing activities across Europe. A European seminar emphasized the importance of measuring social impact, presenting perspectives from experts of the OECD and the European Commission. ENSIE also participated in OECD workshops, contributing to ongoing discussions on measuring and managing social impact for the social and solidarity economy.

In 2024, ENSIE continues its commitment to data collection and analysis. The upcoming “Impact-WISEs” study will not only assess socio-economic impacts but also focus on return on investment for public authorities supporting WISEs, reaffirming their role in promoting an inclusive and prosperous future.
