Edward Elgar a publié l’ouvrage A Modern Guide to the Social and Solidarity Economy. Avec la participation d’une trentaine d’experts internationaux, sous la coordination des professeurs Marie J. Bouchard (Université du Québec à Montréal et CIRIEC-Canada) et Damien Rousselière (Institut Agro Rennes-Angers et CIRIEC-France), ce Guide présente une synthèse des connaissances contemporaines sur l’économie sociale et solidaire (ESS). Il offre une vue d’ensemble des dimensions conceptuelles, historiques, organisationnelles et de développement de l’ESS, et explore les problématiques actuelles sous l’angle des politiques publiques, de la gouvernance, des finances et de la législation.

Les chapitres combinent des perspectives théoriques avec des exemples empiriques, en présentant des analyses sur la recherche, le développement et la participation dans l’ESS. Les différentes contributions montrent que l’ESS favorise des modes équitables de distribution des ressources et des excédents, et promeut des relations de pouvoir démocratiques, compétentes et émancipatrices. Parmi les entités analysées figurent les coopératives, les mutuelles, les organisations à but non lucratif et les initiatives communautaires qui privilégient les missions sociales et environnementales par rapport à la génération de profits.

L’ouvrage peut présenter un grand intérêt pour les universitaires et les étudiants en économie et finance, en gestion d’entreprise et en politique sociale. Et, surtout, pour les acteurs et les responsables politiques de l’ESS, en particulier ceux impliqués dans le développement durable, les services publics et le développement local.
